Medical Malpractice

Stewart & Irwin was a key player in drafting and lobbying for the Indiana Medical Malpractice Act of 1975, which provided physicians with cost stability in medical malpractice insurance and was used as model legislation for states nationwide.

We worked closely with our client, the Indiana State Medical Association, to craft the law that decreased the cost of liability insurance for physicians and encouraged graduates of the Indiana University School of Medicine to remain in practice in Indiana. The firm also successfully represented one of the defendants in the first case that upheld the law's constitutionality.

Today, the firm has branched out to offer many services to doctors that include and go beyond medical malpractice defense. To help prevent claims, our attorneys also offer risk management advice and provide representation at the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana. The Stewart & Irwin medical malpractice team continues to provide strong and effective representation for physicians throughout the state of Indiana.
