Many lawyers work in the area of construction, but few operate with Scott's "inside the business" knowledge. Scott began his career working in commercial litigation and began doing more and more transaction law for clients until he became versatile in both legal areas.

"This is one area where understanding your client's business and their finances is really important," he says.

Scott also has a history of working in the environmental sector and was awarded by the Hoosier Environmental Council as the Environmental Litigator of the Year in 2000 for his federal court case win against government regulators over confined animal feeding operations.

Scott received his doctor of jurisprudence degree from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis.

When he is away from the office, Scott spends a lot of time on the road—either traveling the Midwest to watch his two children compete in sports or riding one of his motorcycles across the country.

"It is a great way to travel," he says. "You develop unique bonding experiences with people you ride with."

"Unless you have knowledge specific to the construction industry, such as the software the industry uses to track projects ,you will not under stand your client's claim. You will not be able to recognize what is important and what is not."
