In Nicholas Gahl, Stewart & Irwin gains a legal professional poised to help guide and grow the firm's environmental law and probate capabilities.
Led by his personal interest and academic achievement in environmental law, it is natural that Nick's primary practice is in Stewart & Irwin's environmental group. Nick began his career with the firm in 2007, and he has welcomed the hands–on experience in federal and state environmental litigation, compliance permitting, and various other environmental matters ever since. Additionally, working closely with clients to draft wills and manage their estates is a true highlight of Nick's practice.
Prior to starting at Stewart & Irwin, Nick worked in the Behavioral Science Unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Quantico, Virginia. This opportunity arose after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. Nick holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence (cum laude) from Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington, and served on the executive board of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies.
In Stewart & Irwin, Nick found his perfect professional balance – a chance to practice at a reputable firm that also recognizes the importance of life outside work.
"Where those two grounds meet, I found a place that – even as a newer associate – I could practice law at a high level yet maintain a home life. And here, I am an integral part of an end product, instead of just a backstage worker."
Although a competitive athlete participating in soccer and flag–football leagues, Nick also enjoys hiking, attempting home improvement projects, and spending time with his wife and family.
An active church member, Nick carries a pro bono file in order to use his law degree to affect good change in organizations he cares about and for individuals often overlooked.
"Assisting clients with their probate and estate planning needs allows me a unique relationship with clients and their families. Spending time with these people serves as a constant reminder of why I became a lawyer."
